Move a Claude chat to another account or a new chat

Claude has no button to move a conversation to another account, and long chats eventually hit their limit. The handover file solves both: it packs the full conversation with an instruction, so a new chat, another account or another AI picks up exactly where you stopped.

Only publicly shared chats can be loaded by link. We do not store chat content. If Claude blocks the direct request, the public page is read through Jina Reader. Independent tool, not affiliated with Anthropic.

How the transfer works

Typical reasons for a transfer

You switch from a private account to a company Team or Enterprise plan. You start a new account with a different email. A conversation has become so long that Claude asks you to start a new chat. Or you want to continue a Claude conversation in another AI tool.

When a chat gets too long

Every conversation has a context limit. Instead of starting from zero, export the chat, create the handover file and open a new chat with it. The new chat gets the complete history and an instruction to summarize the current state first, so nothing important is lost.

Using Projects in the new account

If you work with Projects in Claude, add the handover file to the project knowledge. Every new chat in that project then knows the earlier conversation without you pasting it again.

FAQ

Can I transfer Claude chats between accounts officially?

No. Chats stay in the account where they were created. You can share them, export them and bring their content into another account with a handover file.

Does the handover also work with other AI tools?

Yes. The handover file is plain Markdown with a clear instruction. Any assistant that accepts long text or file uploads can continue with it.

What about Claude's memory?

Memory and chats are separate. The handover file brings the content of one conversation. If your plan offers memory, you can additionally tell Claude in the new account what it should remember.

Is the handover file free?
